scenic route

Na-na-na-na
Na-na-na-na, na
Na-na-na-na
Na-na-na-na, na

Never was a straight-A kid
Never called a genius
Stayed up every night
Bags under my eyes
Just to get an eighty-six
Tried out for the play that spring (Na-na-na-na)
Sang until my voice would sting (Na-na-na-na)
Sure, I nailed the notes
Got into the show (Na-na-na-na)
But I still didn't get the lead (Na-na-na-na)

Nothing good comes easy, doesn't mean that I won't try
'Cause nothing worth it happens overnight

I don't take the shortcut
I'm here for the long run
I'd rather be the runner up
For the rest of my life than cut to number one
I don't need a free lunch
Daddy and his trust fund (Ah-ah)
I'd rather be the underdog
For the rest of my life than be the lucky one

Cello lessons since first grade

Practiced while my friends would play
I wouldn't leave the house, I hated missing out
But now I'm playing every state (Na-na-na-na)

Labels want a viral hit but I'll still take my time
'Cause nothing worth it happens overnight

I don't take the shortcut
I'm here for the long run
I'd rather be the runner up
For the rest of my life than cut to number one
I don't need a free lunch
Daddy and his trust fund (Ah-ah)
I'd rather be the underdog
For the rest of my life than be the lucky one (Oh!)

I will take the scenic route
Driving through the ups and downs
'Cause maybe that's what life's about
Isn't it? isn't it?
Silver line in every cloud
So rain or shine, I'm still around
'Cause maybe that's what life's about
Isn't it? isn't it?
I will take the scenic route (Oh-oh-ooh)
Driving through the ups and downs (Oh-oh-ooh)
'Cause maybe that's what life's about (Life's about)
Isn't it? isn't it? (Isn't it?)
Silver line in every cloud
So rain or shine, I'm still around
'Cause maybe that's what life's about (Oh-oh-ooh)
Isn't it? isn't it?
